1879 – Railway time ends

The Riksdag (parliament) decided in May 1878 that common civil time would be introduced in Sweden after the turn of the year. They chose the time "in between" Stockholm and Gothenburg, i.e. 12 minutes. This meant that Sweden was the first country to introduce common time for the entire country.
